237. Food as Medicine for Dogs: A Functional Nutrition Approach

237. Food as Medicine for Dogs: A Functional Nutrition Approach

Food isn’t just fuel—it’s information. In this episode, I sit down with a functional canine nutritionist to break down what “food as medicine” really means for dogs. We go beyond calories and “complete & balanced” to talk about gut function, inflammation, detox pathways, nutrient density, and how to build a bowl that supports the whole body—not just maintenance.

You’ll learn how functional nutrition looks at root cause, how to adjust diets based on symptoms (itch, stool changes, low energy, behavior shifts), and simple upgrades you can start using immediately. Practical, strategic, and grounded in physiology—not trends.

CEO/Mom/Entrepreneur

A former veterinary technician with 20 years in the animal care industry, I’ve transitioned into a functional canine nutritionist dedicated to helping dog guardians get to the root cause of their dogs’ gut health issues. Through my supportive community of like-minded dog lovers, I guide owners step-by-step so they never feel overwhelmed or alone on their journey to whole-fresh-food feeding.
Before pursuing canine health full-time, I served as a medic in the Air National Guard—an experience that ultimately showed me human medicine wasn’t my calling. I followed my passion back to animals and continued my path as a vet tech before evolving into the work I do today.
I’m also a mom to two toddler boys, five dogs, eight chickens, and one chinchilla. When I’m not working, you can usually find me out in nature or meditating—two things that keep me grounded and inspired.
